I've been thinking of doing this for a while now....but I'm thinking of opening up the world of
Salad Days to other artists and creating a website or something where we can compile all the stories into one place.
the idea is that other artists can draw comics or write stories based on the school, theme, and idea of Salad Days.
[edit] alright...some of you are getting way too confused...i thought i was clear anough, but im looking for your OWN characters (though i may let ppl use existing side characters) with you OWN stories. the idea is to make it like an actual school with a ton of different ppl who may or may not talk to each other
[end edit]

keep in mind i can deny your story idea, but i'll most likely try to work you through it

with that said, here are the ideas that i want ppl to follow if youre interested:
Theme
The motto of Salad Days is "A Time of Youthful Innocence.....yeah right..." The reason being, that the Theme of Salad Days is about teenage life and drama....but at the end of the day, all you have to do is laugh it off. It should give you a sentimental feeling...the "youthful innocence".....which is immediately interrupted by a funny situation that makes you go...."yeah right"
Salad Days is a character-driven, slice-of-life, supernatural comedy. Is supposed to touch you, its supposed to make you laugh, and its supposed to make you think about how silly things can be when at the time, they seem so important. Salad Days is about exploring friends, relationships, and life.
its got nothing to do with action, theres no "big threat" that everyone has to face in the end of the series...truthfully, the story could probably go on forever.
Which is why i need help from other artists with different visions and intepretations of the theme.
Characters
In my mind, each character should follow three basic things: 1)a supernatural creature/myth; 2)a fashion/visual style; 3)a typical character type
I know when i design them, i think of the myth they follow first, then i think of how i can interpret the myth to modern day fashion or just overall give them a unique look that basically tells the reader what their character type is.
then i usually work with that character type and give them quirks that make them endearing. (such as Ash's tree-hugging-ness and arachnophobia)
of course, this is just a guide line to tell you what im kind of looking for, i know a lot of you out there already have great characters (some of which ive already drawn myself) that would work fine with the image of the world i have.
As far as using my existing characters, I'll have to talk to you about it, depending on who it is and what you want to do with them. At the moment though, i tihnk itll be perfectly fine to use my characters
Style
My brother told me that Salad Days reminds him of Springtime...cause theres a lot of rain, but the sun always shines in the end. which i thought was pretty accurate.
My friend, Andrea also told me that the song
"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol, is like Salad Days' theme song...which is also very true.....
But basically, the structure of each story is chapter-based...about the main character's interaction with one of the major side characters.
i want to explore the depth of each person, show their insecurities, loves, fears, anything, and make it funny yet cute.
this is actually what im having the most difficulty with and why i want to open this up to a huge group project, so we can all find our own styles.
i guess what i really want to do, is to create stories that ppl can learn from...something readers can relate to and still get a laugh out of in the end
