RAAAH ANOTHER SKETCHDUMP. I'm sorry that I've been on such a kick with this project lately, but hopefully I'll be able to focus on other stuff again soon (like PT oh my god my muse is all over the damn place)On the topic of gender neutral pronouns and why we decided to choose it:
Solaris is heavily inspired by the Avatar cartoon series, that being a Wuxia, pan-Asian setting. Me being Chinese American and all, really wanted to put some of my culture into this project, and Mandarin as a language doesn't make any distinction between "him" and "her" (except when it's written, and I'm pretty sure the gendered third person pronouns are more of a modern invention)
Since me and Bee are also putting a lot of Queer/LGBTQIA+ themes in it, I'd been playing with the idea of using gender neutral pronouns for everyone, and Bee was really excited about the idea. So basically in Solaris, he/she pronouns don't exist in their language.
As a note for anyone who might get confused or have a hard time transitioning, it won't necessarily be insulting for you to use gendered pronouns when referring to characters, and sometimes you may catch me and bee doing it too. SO please don't worry! It's not really about the character's identities so much as their culture. Basically we'll still use man/woman/guys/ladies, etc etc... just no "he/she" or "his/hers"
The pronouns we'll be using will be they/them/theirs, and sometimes the abbreviated "em" (inspired by the Spivak pronouns)
WHOO, HOPE THAT MADE SENSE, sorry for the long explanation, but feel free to ask for more detail!
Hope you enjoyed the dump!
